This will be scrapped later, I don't usually like posting pics of unfinished things or mockups... but maybe it'll help someone else who wants to make costume wings!
All the feathers were cut from 3mm thick Foamies sheets. Feathers 1, 2, and 3 are independent of each other, 4 and 5 are attached together halfway, and 6-13 are one solid piece with notches cut at the tips.
Near the wrist, 5 and 6 have grommets punched into them. When something is inserted through these grommets (a small bolt, a knotted piece of twine, etc.) it allows the wrist to swivel without totally detaching from the arm feathers.
So far this wing has held up pretty well to testing! There's enough dexterity in the fingers to pick up objects, work doorknobs and levers, and make all kinds of gestures. (insert flipping the bird joke here)
The finished wings will feature fleece-covered feathers and a sleeve of faux fur! BABBY'S FIRST REAL FURSUIT PROJECT, GO~
