Four years ago to this day [Inauguration Day 2009], I finished this comic page after six months of deliberation--it just seemed to take FOREVAR to find the time to get it done. Since then, I've done precious little work on the story as a whole... not for want of trying, but it HAS been a miserably difficult process doing comic work, besides that my style and methods have changed since then [somewhat, but noticeably]. Not that working on other projects hasn't slowed things down.
I've been debating how to get things finished, and the obvious idea is to enlist a [paid] background artist to help. *I do have an artist in mind* and would just need to ask/work out the details, but two things are stopping me: 1. legal tape, 2. money, and 3. time. The first is a matter of how cool said artist is [I'm assuming fairly cool, for reasons], the second is a matter relating to my day job [will resolve itself in time, for better or worse], but the third I'm not certain about, because I have to draw roughs for a bg artist to work with, don't I?
The thing is artwork is WORK, and lately digital art especially feels like working in an isolation chamber. When I had plenty of time to kill, this was fine, but nowadays it's pulling teeth to get myself to do it. Physical media isn't too much better--I spend more time cleaning up sketches than drawing, despite my best efforts. I find myself constantly distracted by things that provide more immediate rewards; e.g. playing XCOM [just started a game today] or making a costume to wear =p
I can't say I won't ever work on this again... this is just sort of a public musing about the state of my artwork. I AM DRAWING, DON'T WORRIES! I just have to REALLY be interested, lately.
Just an update! I know I've been posting sporadically, but this is why. I guess I could've put this all in a Journal entry, but whatevs.
