The History:
"The Magician guides The Fool through the first step out of the cave of childhood into the sunlight of consciousness," (Go Wikipedia!) He is a representation of the potential for new adventures, both good and bad. Usually the magician is near a table with all of the suits of a tarot deck present, and there is also common use of the infinity symbol.

What I've added-
The RAVEN!!! Because in most cultures the raven as seen as wise, knowledgeable, but also a trickster... and somehow that seemed right for the magician... *Grins* And they are one of my moset favrite of birds.
