Leonard Mack, the seven-foot tall red fox, has a home. In this, his seventh year as a professional basketball player, Mack is in his third season with the Williamsburg Minutemen, the longest he has been with any team.
In a way, that was indicative of how he was noticed, and yet glossed over. Leonard, who grew up on the Mack family corn farm just outside of Des Moines, sprouted as tall as those stalks of corn he knew. He was always noticed for that and his athletic ability, dominating on the hardwood as well as the diamond.
Leonard pitched and played first base on his high school baseball team, and once pitched a no-hitter, smacking two home runs for his own cause. Still, his unusual height, muscle and uncanny precision for three-pointers made him a valued commodity on the court. He concentrated on basketball full-time in college and made it to the FBA, his dream come true.
Despite being a six-foot, eleven-inch tall and muscular fox with long black hair and a noticeable headband, Mack toiled in relative obscurity, bouncing around on three teams. He always seemed to get overlooked.
That is, until he was traded to the rebuilding Williamsburg Minutemen. Given a regular role and rotation, he realized his potential and that culminated with the Sixth Fur of the Year Award for the 2011-12 season.
7-Up is the tallest fox in the FBA, a full 8 inches taller than Voodoo star Barton Rouge. He revealed that he was really seven feet tall in time for the 2011-12 season, and teammate Wiley Twaddle (Woodchuck, SG, WIL) pegged him with his new nickname.
Mack remains popular with the Williamsburg fans and is a respected veteran of the Minutemen team. He also has a quiet relationship with the team's star point guard, Vera La Tiérra (Red Vixen, PG, WIL). In recent days, he has shown more public support for her during the season, deciding to play without sneakers, just like she does.
Here in the picture, he is wearing the team's 1980s home uniform, which was re-introduced last season.
