These are the plans I have for the red fox headdress I'm working on, it's a quick doodle up, it's not a giant fox, the body silhouette is not to scale :p
At the moment he's been reformed and conditioned and any nicks repaired, the only design elements he has on him right now are the red and black feathers. I decided to put the actual pelt project on hold to see if people would rather me design the whole thing, or leave the accessories up to whoever would want him.
For this design I'd like to give him some wool braids attach a few more feathers, as well as some leather braids and a tail cuff with possibly some bones on it. I also thought I might want to give him some quills, but opted out on that one in case someone should want to dance wearing him, that can be a mistake (the quills, ouch!)
I'll get some pictures of the actual pelt later, I'm also going to upload a blank fox headdress template in case someone does want him and wants him designed 100% on their own.
If anyone has any questions on this project, ask.
I am going to offer payment plans for this piece, because I'm thinking if I sell it it'll be at least $120
I would prefer a trade, another pelt to work with plus shipping and a little extra for materials, maybe $20-30?

A payment plan is a great idea, I love the way he looks so far and the bone idea is a great one (but, I'm a huge fan of bones)
And would you like a pelt to work with? I might debate over letting you try your hand with my badger... would you like a picture of him first? I'd like to know your ideas for him before I decide

If you wanted me to make one for you with a provided pelt I could do it for very cheap, If you gave me another pelt for the labor I'd only ask for the shipping @.@
Unless I needed to buy more materials that is, but I'd still do it dirt cheap
You say he was brain tanned? I'd have to look up rehydrating methods to see if it would be any different working with that sort of tan

Yeah that's what I was told, and given the hide has holes in it on the sides, it would make sense

Its repairable? That's great news! Oh I should also mention, he has fur on his.. underside. Its odd, but there are patches where the fur that's missing on the front is actually on the bottom hide side....

I can't repair any on the slips unless you buy a section of another badger I could replace fur with, but the eye I should be able to, assuming the rehydration process is the same with brain tans
There are other options though, You could make him look rugged and I can just patch up some slip areas with different colour leather, there are always options, you just need ideas!

Well, for the underside maybe just put patches of leather over the fur parts? I mean that's my main concern (and if you can fix the eyes that'd be great too but if you can't thats fiiiine) because whenever I've tried to wear him now, the fur sticks through whatever clothes I'm wearing, which is a bother

I can always add a liner to him, that's another thing that you could run to the fabric store, pick up a fabric that you like the colour and feel of, and send along with the hide, That way you could save me a little trouble and I know you're getting something YOU want.

I really do like doing the custom stuff, it always makes it more personal for the person I'm working with.
I still have to figure out what exactly I'm doing with this guy, if I'm still going forward with this design or leaving it open to the potential buyer, but so far you seem to be the only one who voiced in serious interests. :D

I like fur. It's a really bad habbit of mine. I have a kangaroo pelt coming in soon, but the fox pelt I want done is a little old red, with no tail. She's a stubby little thing.

Crafting is my bad habit, 88% of the money I get from selling things goes RIGHT back into the craft in materials @.@
It really is my passion, I couldn't be happier with what I do as a hobby.
I can sew it up, that's no issue. I can also just add another tail onto that pelt if you provide one (granted you'd want a tail on it, stub tail is kinda unique), or I can try to find one for you, though I'm sure you know where to look XD

some day when i get a coyote pelt, i must get you to make a beautiful headdress out of it :I for a while now i've been super interested in the navajo skin-walkers and kindof wanted something like that :I kinda wicked- shaman-gone-wrong type thing.. i donno, dark things are interesting to me XD
