As I've said before, I hate picking favorites among my commissions...but if I'm being totally honest, this one really is one of my favorites. It was done by the totally incredible
somasleepy , and it truly is an exquisite piece, IMO. I couldn't ask for a better commission of Tony changing cubby Digitz's diaper.
I guess it's actually pretty deep why I love this one so much, so I'm going to go into a lengthy explanation.
I think it's down to the fact that when it comes to cubby/baby stuff, my mind still has a big gender role issue. It still just doesn't feel as natural to me for a male to be taking care of a baby as it does a female. It feels like most females naturally just love babies, and males usually don't have much of an affinity for them. It's different when there's an uncle or a new father or something, but in general guys don't seem to have as much of a natural affection for them.
This is especially true for someone like me, who doesn't have any baby experience at all. TBH, IRL I don't like babies much.
So for me, I get a really special feeling when a really "cool" guy is so affectionate and caring of babies, particularly when it can be applied to my cub fursona. And that's what soma grabbed so perfectly well in this pic.
I absolutely love how soma drew Tony. He has the perfect look of a strong, manly cool looking wolf guy. I love his muscles and his clothes. He just looks like a really protective big-brother sort of guy.
But the thing is...obviously diaper changing is one of the most unpleasant parts of caring for cubs/babies. Most of the time it's talked about like it's an unpleasant chore, and I know for me it would be, especially if I had to do it thousands of times.
But I've also read how it's really one of the best bonding moments that parents have with babies. It's such an intimate situation, and one where the baby/cub is the most vulnerable. So I think it really showcases a strong, loving, bonding moment between parent and cub.
So what I totally love so much about this pic is how the cool, strong Tony is happily enjoying changing Digitz's diaper and is genuinely enjoying taking care of him. It's that strong level of love that really taps into the core of the joy I get out of being a babyfur.
And the background just perfectly sets up the scene too. I love the extra diapers, the baby powder, and the panda plushie.
But every little detail is so great too. The blanket, the diaper, even just little things like the position of Digitz's feet or Tony's fingers around the diaper tape.
I am so happy to have this commission, and soma went beyond my expectations. I don't even know what else to say to express my joy about this one.

Well any way, I like this art and I think Tony is very suave and handsome. As for the subject of diaper changing I admit I just cringe at the subject. It's hard for me to deal with it because I'm autistic and a bit obsessive compulsive so it's hard for me to deal with the idea of cleaning up a babies urine and feces, what makes it worse is that I'm a new uncle of a recently born nephew so I sort of contradict your statement in your summary which makes me ashamed about it.
Some day I hope to have children and undertake the responsibility myself, but I just hate how some cartoons make immature jokes about dirty diapers increasing my disgust factor about the subject, or when the graphic nature of it is shown by some people's artwork on this page and one instance in a Heavy Metal comic. But your art and summery about changing babies is a good coping mechanism, but one of the biggest coping mechanisms that influence me the most was the episode of Rugrats "Little Dude", if you've seen the episode you'll see what I mean. One day I want to seek counselling so I won't cringe as much about it when I do have kid or when I do change my nephew for the first time myself, and I hope I can find more coping mechanisms to help me out.

Dude, even though I'm not autistic and not OCD concerning the subject of diapers...I totally relate to what your'e saying. Whenever people IRL start talking about babies and diapers, I get really uncomfortable. The idea of changing a baby's diaper is just so weird and foreign to me.
And I totally agree with you about how much I hate it when there are nasty dirty diaper jokes. Or I hate it when people talk about diapers and they focus on the nasty aspect of it. It kind of "ruins" all of my good cubby feelings about cuteness and diapers and stuff. It's things like that that make me understand why non-baby/diaper furs or why "normal" people find the whole cub/diaper thing so weird and messed up. I totally get the idea when it comes to excrement and the nastiness of it. That's what makes it so hard to get across the feelings of awesomeness I feel for being in a cub state.
But I totally agree with you about the "Little Dude" episode! I always loved that one as a kid, and it's just like what I described....I love the idea of a "cool" guy knowing about babies and diapers, and not thinking of it as a big deal. I love the idea of them making it a cool thing. I know there have been other cartoon or show situations that did the same thing, but I can't think of any of them right now.
So I totally agree with you about the whole diaper thing IRL.
