If death is inevitable, then why do we continue to advance our knowledge of diseases? Why do we spend uncountable amounts of money trying to get people to live longer?
It is a struggle, and for the most part, death is inevitable, but....
Wouldn't you like to live longer...with the ones you love?
The ones who you can trust? The ones who pat you on the back saying "Good Job"? The ones who dump water on your head when you sleep, and you all laugh afterward at the hilarious prank that was pulled?

The same ones that desert you never to be seen again. The same ones that stab you in the back. The same ones turn a blind eye to you when you needed them there.
Self-preservation is a timeless animal instinct. When it comes to people, we fear the end because it is an uncertainty. We guess as to what comes next because we hope that there is more to it, that there is some aspect of immortality to us. But whether there is or not, we just don't know and because we don't know we strive to avoid it for as long as we can. Our society has a teleological approach to things. We like to pretend we have a purpose. We pretend that life makes sense, that there is some point to all this struggling but really, is there?

Seems to me that it's all a joke. A black, awful joke. How many times have we just flatout murdered the person that was just telling us to try to get along with one another. How many times have we come close to World War III over a flock of geese on a computer screen? How often do we get riled up about a soldier dying when he's marching around another person's country with machine guns but never bat an eye when we drop a bomb on a hospital and kill a whole bunch of sick kids?
It's all a joke. Everything anybody ever valued or struggled for is all a monstrous, demented gag. Though maybe I'm taking the wrong approach. If it's all a joke, I should be laughing rather than moping

.......I can't tell you how right the first part of your statement is....
But the last part....doesn't sit well with me....I can't explain it, because it seems correct, but when I think about it, I know it is terribly, terribly wrong...
