Some old concept art from about 2 years ago, when I had a comic project in the works. Slight chance I'll return to it, but mostly unlikely. Thought I'd post a bit of the prep work I did for it though. I am still quite attached to the world I built... not so much the characters (characters are just not where my strength lies). This was my initial concept for a city called Sivyr (y pronounced like in year) which was the major trading city in the southeast, and quite the rough place. This was just a WIP, I never finished it.
If you're planning a comic...my two cents is screw the highly-fleshed out concept art (I did about a dozen environments and several characters), just jot down exactly what you need to inform yourself, and dig into the comic. Otherwise, you'll lose the steam. Maybe you can get really specific and fleshed out on your second or third comic, but don't let it be too daunting.

Quite a neat concept of a defendible city against sea attacks. However do find a shortage of harbour protection against rough sea during peace. But that is what WIP means. Impressive in any case.
*loves comment about too much comic planning*
*scrible scrible*
I'll just take it from experience then.

I'm also planning a comic, but don't have many time to start it properly (studies 'n stuff). I mark your words, and at least I will try to jump in as soon as I have some free time.
Your concept reminds me of a concept of mine, a city implanted on a cliff, over the sea. It was only far less impressive, more medieval. Anyway I love your concept, the design you painted there is... well, can't find the good word, it really cayght my eye, even if it's a WIP. I can't help but imagine how it would have turned out once finished.
Btw, love the contrast between the white, pure design of the city and the rough stairs.

Gosh I'm impressed at how you rendered the cloud forms in the background. It looks hand-brushed and very elegant. I understand what you mean by a comic artist dealing with the details first, and not concerning themselves with telling the story. I got so hung up on the way the world of Tazero worked that it killed my enthusiasm for the story.
