I'm certainly with the editor until the end there.
Asking about an employee through a friend and roommate is one thing, but utilizing said friend/roommate as a mediator for his management is really kinda crossing the line there. This is where nepotism really gets bad for everyone.
It seems that right now what he's trying to do is avoid any drama from his son in the future. Oh, sure, Edward will be pissed at him, but it might pass since visually, it wasn't his father that fired him, but Derrik.
Yeah, Eddie needs to work harder, but this owl definately needs to drop some eggs and cock up. (Erm, doesn't quite sound the same as 'drop his balls and man up, does it?)

Well, perhaps some won't agree, but I like Eddie's father! He's strict, but if his son isn't going to show up he's taking a reasonable course of action. Well, he's a good business-owl at least, perhaps not a great father in that he's not taking the initiative himself. Still, I don't like that he's putting Derek in the middle of this--poor lion has enough to worry about! And what about his upcoming coffee date with Mike!? Hopefully in the stress of all this he doesn't forget!
Keep up the great work!

Awesome comic, man!
Anyway, I agreed with many people here: Eddie's father is acting really wrong. I mean, why put at his son's best friend and flatmate in such a hard situation? Doesn't he have got enough balls to speak with his son face by face? I think Eddie's father is quite coward and insensitive.

I think the father is using this as a test for derek with it being the ability to talk to others about the problem and getting the point across that it is a job. Just because his fathers his boss doesn't mean anything.... thats how i see this going it is probibly a test on his will if he can tell his friend how it is then maybe he'll have a promoton of some sort in the future.
Love the comic as a whole really hope it goes the way im thinking from start to finish i've noticed little things that i hope are foreshadowings
