I'm really reaching into the crypt with this one, but for awhile it was my most noteworthy picture (as well as one of the most complicated I've attempted). Pencils were done in 1999, inks a year later after getting comfortable with brush inking. There are still stray lines in the pencil shading, but a complete cleanup is still a ways off.
This pic came from one of the earliest sketchbooks I compiled for use at cons, starting in '98. But my book was different. Instead of collecting sketches or doing throwaway scribbles in it, I chose to illustrate my characters, having them describe themselves by answering general questions I've been asked about them, in a semi-comic format.
One of the questions was whether I intended to draw in an anime style. While I admired many aspects of the work, I never intended to directly copy any distinctly Japanese styles (as far as I can tell, my style is still unique in this fandom). As the character (Tina) ponders the question, it leads to a depiction of what she would look like doing battle with a pair of cliched anime advesaries, while surrounded by a collection of elements common to much well-known action anime out there. Most folks who saw it found it funny, or could identify several of the cliches I embedded in the image.
How many can you find?

it doesn't fit doubt that in that year it was where the one encourages I hit very strong in the united states mainly among the youths and I cause the fall of many comics editorials until the same marvel they falls, that made be born another art type, it's certain what you say but I began in 1969 with the art of Osamu tezuka and in 1973 with the art erotic European of guido crepax, where the furries made boom was in 1975 with the art of robert croump of fritz the cat, also where omaha cat dancer was for my other type in way of seeing the comic, however there are certain doubts on plagiarism that they made to robert croump, in omaha cat dancer there is a very similar cat to fritz and the one encourages it was made without the author permission that they made to robert croump hate to the world furry for that plagiarism, the same thing happens the plagiarism , so much autodice americamanga, while in mexico that type of anime that i saw in mexico from 1967 was for me my awakening when i was boy.
