One day at work, out of the blue, my manager at the time said that our department needed a mascot. He challenged me and co-worker to come up with something and if we did, he'd make us all t-shirts. We jokingly said the mascot should be a honey badger (because none of us give a shit) and I went home and churned this out. I figured the chance of actually getting shirts was slim to none, but I couldn't resist the challenge.
The next day I brought this in, my coworker having not even remembered to do anything for it. Everyone loved the sketch and my manager jokingly grumbled about how he now had to get shirts for everyone.
Well, he got transferred to a different department and I figured that was that. Until suddenly this guy appeared on a poster at work for a team meeting involving not only my department, but at least four or five others. To my surprise, not only did my department get shirts with this emblazoned on the back, but they all did as well.
Made me quite happy, especially as it a)originally started out as a joke and b) I've had several people come up to me and compliment me on the shirts and say how they were glad they had a work-related shirt they weren't "embarrassed about".
