I thought I had seen the last of this little fellow but this morning I found him covered in ants and in need of some attention. Manages to find a container to keep him in untill I figure out what to do with him. I know nothing about rearing a bat and I am not sure how or what to feed him.
Any sugestions please

OR you could find a local bat specialist of some type, if there's anything like that in your area :3 it'd probably be better to consult professionals to take the baby and bring it back to health rather than do it yourself, since it's a bit complicated and might be costly to attempt to do it yourself.
(p.s. don't handle it barehanded is the best advice i've seen when looking stuff up)

Tried to find a specialist, phoned the only rescue center in my area and they din't answer my calls nor my emails. I also don't think he is a baby, fully grown from what i have read up.
Been using surgical gloves to handle him and I use a cloth to make a barrier bwtween his teeth and my flesh

First thing. i would figure out which species it is. Looking around, there seems to be around 50 different species of bat in south africa.
This way you will have a good indication as to it's diet and such. Second, i would minimize contact with it unless you are wearing gloves. It very well could have been sick, which maybe why your cat caught it.

here is a interest group for south african bats. They even have some contact information in the section of the page that deals with finding injured bats.
*hugs*
i wish you and your cute little friend the best of luck.
