At first Dusty seems like like just another of those long-haired, yee-hawin', pickup driving good ol' boys from the backwoods. You might even wonder how someone like him even wound up at an exclusive school that's usually the domain of the top shelf of society. Dusty will simply credit it to hard work and just wanting to do something with his life. Oh, and his mother's a design engineer for the largest car manufacturer in Sinnoh. That helped a little too.
If anyone is content to just write him off as a stump-jumping redneck without getting to know him, then he's content to just let them keep thinking that. Southern drawl and colorful language aside, Dusty is a lot like any average Pachirisu his age; cheerful, clever, and borderline hyperactive. He'll be more than happy to talk your ear off about just about anything, if you can keep up with him. Certainly not an easy task when he really gets on a topic he's interested in.
Although he decided against joining a team for his first two years to concentrate on his studies (he plans on following his mother's career track to automotive design), Dusty has since reconsidered after the school exams put a much greater emphasis on teamwork both in and out of battling. He's thinking about hooking up with Team Showtime as an alternate after learning they were interested in finding an Electric-type to try and balance things out a little.
(Major props to
carlito whose two Pachis helped me design this guy. Especially the tail spikes, which I personally like a lot better than the 'normal' design. Yeah, I know his right hip is screwed up... big perspective error there.)

I think the thing that puts people off is that they're kinda hard to get leveled up compared to other Electrics, but if you take one through Wayward Cave when you can do the double battles with the lost little girl, then it's a breeze. Plus the Run Away ability is invaluable if you need to get someplace in a hurry, since it's a guaranteed escape from wild Pokemon.
Ah nice to see another of these guys that doesn't fit the "cute annoying anime sidekick" sterotype, Dominic would be proud :) And Tessa for that matter. And the General Lee t-shirt is a nice touch.
And the tail spikes of course. I like the idea of them being metallic lightning rods rather than tufts of fur, made more sense to me that way.

Well he is kinda cute and bouncy, but that's just a combination of natural behavior and drinking far more soda than anyone probably should in a day. ;)
And I kinda theorized that Pachirisu actually do have those spikes, but their tailfur grows over them as a sort of insulator and that's where the triangular look comes from. So a Pokemorph could trim that fur away from the spikes to have their electric attacks pack a bigger punch, or just for a fashion statement.
