Thank you very much. I did it in less than one hour at the back of an envelope (the first sheet of paper that I could catch) and I used my camera instead of my scanner to digitize it. The AS3 code I used to create this animation is the same old code I developed for my other panoramic pictures.

Thank you very much for your interest.
When I draw a panoramic picture, I usually use small paper pattern to represent the vanishing lines. Here is an example: http://alphonselavallee.deviantart......ture-185805574 To make it short, these vanishing lines correspond to big circles of the sphere represented on an equirectangular projection (I don't have the formula in mind but is is not very difficult to find them with spherical trigonometry). I have also developed a little code in AS3 (using the PaperVision library) that returns the SWF file (I still use Flash, shame on me).
If you have any questions please feel free to ask.

Thanks for the advice!
That certainly helps on the side of producing the source image (I was wondering whether it would be a single, warped-perspective image, or else several smaller ones stitched together), but first I've got the problem of actually rendering it in a panoramic perspective. I'd be doing this in a rather limited, pseudo-coding program, so I'm not sure yet if it's actually possible.

I'm using Multimedia Fusion 2. It's a program made mainly for making 2D games, so there's no real way to do 3D rendering.
Nonetheless, I was able to make a panorama viewer, but it's a real hack-job. It just uses a whole mess of 2D sprites, scaled and rotated to simulate a complete sphere.
Now for the fun part: drawing a panoramic scene!
I can't believe you actually draw these things by hand, though. That seems like a lot to wrap your head around.

Here is the original drawing, done on an envelope: http://img841.imageshack.us/img841/...../imgp5679q.jpg
I didn't have a scanner within easy reach so I took this picture with my camera and I filtered it to obtain a "clean scan" of my sketch.
I have never heard of MMF2 before. It seems interesting. Unfortunately I am currently working under Linux...

Ha, nice. The back of an envelope, as promised.
I managed to plug it into my own viewer without much trouble. Looks pretty close!
MMF2 is a nice program, and I've been using it for many years, but it's kind of been overtaken recently by things such as Unity. But I still love it.
Though I guess I won't be able to show you my finished panorama viewer, 'cause it requires Windows and DirectX and all that.
Ah well.

Thank you. Even if I cannot run your software under my OS, I would be interested by some screen shots (if you don't mind of course).
I will also try to find a simple AS3 code I developed long ago for one of my colleagues who asked for a very basic viewer.
Under Windows (at work), I use FlexSDK (complier) and FlashDevelop (GUI). Under Linux, I use mxmlc (command lines).

Thank you or the kind comment... In this case, I drew the picture on a sheet of paper (and envelope actually) using some special curve shaped rulers like the ones I use here. In an equirectangular (sphere projection) view, vanishing lines are no more straight but curved like in this example. I hope that it partly answers your question.
And also thank you for the favourite!
