The bench was old, and creaked loudly under the stress of Keith's weight with the slightest movement. So the horse sat still in place, careful not to cause any damage. After all, the bum is a really bad place for splinters. A chill ran up Keith's back, result of the abnormally low temperature of the room he was sitting in, and had been sitting in for what had to have been at least a quarter of an hour now.
That was one of the numerous things that Keith despised about the doctors office, was the waiting. Here he was, sitting in a cold room in nothing but his boxers, hoping to here the sound of the doctors footprints outside and the click of the doorknob so that they could get this over and done with.
His ears perked up, there were footprints outside the room. A feeling of either hope or dread surged through his chest as he thought he heard the doctors voice as well… false alarm. Nothing. Just more waiting. Keith sighed. That anxious, withering kind of sigh. Perfect for the situation. His face strayed downward and he found himself looking at his stomach- the soul reason for his being here.
Keith had always been a big eater, his healthy appetite evident throughout his life. And as expected, it made itself apparent in the form of inches around his waist, or a few "X"s on his clothes tags. He never thought it a big deal. There were such a thing as bigger guys, why be ashamed? Besides, haven't you ever heard the phrase, "To eat like a horse"? Well Keith has. Plenty of times. But then, on cool autumn day four years ago, he met Alexis. And not to sound corny or anything, but it truly was love at first glance. Before they knew it, they were dating. And not long after that, Alexis was his bride. AND shortly following marriage- I'm getting ahead of myself. So as I was saying, the two were perfect for each other. Keith loved to eat, and was good at it, in the same sense that Alexis loved to cook. And believe me when I tell you, she was GOOD at it. Within the first two years of their marriage, Keith's weight ballooned from a husky 240 lbs to a full blown 350 (roughly)! No longer toting around an ample paunch, but rather hauling a big, soft, gut. He couldn't help it, Keith was to weight as peas are to carrots.
There was more noise outside, and Keith perked up again, the same sense of hope and dread coursing through his veins. And this time, to some avail. The door opened, and in came the stout looking Siberian tiger known to his patients as Dr. Mason.
"Good morning, Keith." The doctor said calmly as he shut the door behind him.
"Good morning, Doctor!" Keith replied friendlily. Dr. Mason looked at the horse with an equally friendly smile before raising the clipboard he had been carrying and taking a good, long look at it. Then, after a few long moments, nodded a bit with a note of consideration on his face.
"338, huh? Looks like you've been dropping hat Thanksgiving weight." Keith blushed;
"Yeah," he started, putting on a shy smile, "finally." Dr. Mason chuckled a bit, and set the clipboard down on the counter behind him.
"Of coarse, we can't celebrate just yet, can we?" Keith started to giggle a little bit.
"Well, it is Christmas eve…"
"And I'll bet you're looking forward to dinner tomorrow." The doctor joked. Keith's smile became sincere, clearly appreciating Dr. Mason's humor.
"You know how good Alexis's cooking is, don't you?" Keith said warmly, giving his gut a good pat, making it quiver as the energy rippled across.
"Indeed, I do." The doctor turned and lifted a stethoscope from it's hanger on the wall. Then, fitting the buds into his ears, Keith braced himself. The metal touched Keith's chest, and he flinched as his brain screamed to his nerves; "COLD!"
It was held there for a short while, before Dr. Mason removed it, took a brief note of something on his clipboard, and swapped out the stethoscope for his trusty sphygmomanometer (otherwise known as that pumpy arm thing that measures blood pressure). The strap was fitted around Keith's flabby bicep, and grew tighter, tighter, tighter as air was pumped into it. The needle on the meter started leaping all around the place before eventually settling someplace. Dr. Mason took note of that as well before hanging the tool back up and leaning against the counter, taking a breath.
"Well," the doctor began, Keith was paying close attention, "T'would seem your weight isn't the only thing looking better." Keith smiled again, happily.
"So my blood pressure's getting better, then?" Keith chirped.
"Yes, very. Obviously, partly due to weight loss. And probably from either a decrease in stress, or increase of exercise."
"…So it's that good, huh?" Keith asked with a wry smile. The doctor chuckled.
"So which is it?" Keith thought, his eyes moving around the room as the cogs turned, shifting his position occasionally causing more groans from the bench underneath his sizable rump. And after some thought;
"I guess… both!" Dr. Mason cocked an eyebrow.
"Both?" he asked in disbelief.
"Yep." Keith said proudly. "I've really been feeling better since Alexis's pregnancy eased up on her."
"Ah," said Dr. Mason shifting himself back onto his feet rather then leaning. "That is good news. After all, triplets aren't as easy to carry as Aaron or Kyle were."
"Plus," Keith continued. "My mom's been here for the holiday's and has been taking care of the boys. So things have been pre-tty easy for me"
"Well try not to sound so smug." The doctor said with a chuckle. "And as for the exercise?" Keith's smile drained from his face, and he slouched forward a bit;
"…Alexis bought me a treadmill as an early Christmas present." Dr. Mason couldn't help but laugh a little, despite the fact that Keith didn't find that part so humorous.
Keith slid his jeans up his thighs, and had to suck in a little to button them. A bit embarrassing, but nothing he wasn't on the road to fix. He pulled a large t-shirt down over his belly and zipped up his fleece jacket, which fit him quite well actually. He exited the examination room and strolled down the hallway to the front desk where, he filled out a check paying for the appointment and slid it to the doe sitting behind the desk. She smiled warmly handed Keith a candy cane, standard front desk procedure. Keith thanked her and gladly excepted the holiday treat.
He was on his way out the door when he heard Dr. Mason call his name. Keith turned around to see the doctor standing at the desk, a grin across his face;
"Merry Christmas, Keith."
The drive home was uneventful. Keith sat behind the wheel, on standby at a red light. He was in the center of town, where a lot of big name stores were situated. All of which filled to the bursting point with last minute shoppers, bustling around eagerly to finish their holiday shopping before the actual holiday. Keith sure was happy he'd done all his shopping in November. The light turned green, and he continued onward towards home.
Keith got out of the car and walked up the sidewalk to the front door, his bare hooves crunching the layer of snow beneath them. Poor snow. The very moment he opened the door, he was smacked in the face by warmth from the fireplace and an array of sweet, delicious scents form the kitchen. He smiled broadly.
"I'm home!" Keith called inside, removing his jacket and hanging it by the door. Directly inside was the living room, Aaron and Kyle were transfixed on the TV. The next sight he saw was his mother poking her head out from the kitchen;
"Hello, Dear!" she said excitedly, making her way over to hug him. Her arms couldn't quite reach all the way around his chest, but it was a full hug nonetheless. Keith and his mother both shared white fur and dark blue eyes, but her mane and tail were brown as where his were black.
"Hey, Mom." He said back to her, giving her a smooch on the cheek.
"That doctor wasn't too mean to you, was he?" Keith's mom interrogated, giving the top of his belly a few little pats.
"No, Mom!" Keith answered with a smile, removing his mother hands from his stomach. "Dr. Mason was very well behaved."
"Well that's good, Darling." She turned back around and hurried back into the kitchen. Keith chuckled after her, and went off to the side and plopped himself down on the couch with an audible 'WHUMP', spreading his arms behind him on the head of the couch. Aaron and Kyle on either side of him. Aaron was the older one, at three years old with light brown fur and a blond mane and Kyle was only two, and looked almost exactly like his father.
"Hey there Boys!" Keith said happily. He didn't get a vivid response, his sons were too busy focusing on the television. Keith tried and failed to figure out what they were watching, some kind of little kids' show. He rolled his eyes; "You guys' have been real good this year, right?" They both nodded, though not straying their gaze from the screen. Keith moved his arms down and around their shoulders, pulling them in close. "So you haven't been naughty?" They shook their heads, still mindlessly watching the TV. Keith sighed and stood up, wondering next into his favorite room of the house; the kitchen.
"Hey Mom?" Keith asked, poking his head through the archway.
"Oh, yes Honey?" She asked with a smile, turning around.
"Why don't you let me step in here for you while you take the boys outside in the yard to play?"
"Why, that's a splendid idea!" She started past Keith out of the kitchen. "Alexis will be right back, she went to the restroom a few minutes ago.
"Okay Mom," Keith said, once again giving her a little smooch. "Just be sure to bundle them up, though."
"Of coarse, Dear!"
And as if on queue, right as his mother and the boys were outside, Alexis stepped back in through the dining room entrance. She smile cheerfully to see Keith standing in the archway.
"Oh," Alexis started, making her way over to her husband, "You're back." She leaned forward and planted a kiss on Keith's muzzle. Keith couldn't stop smiling around her.
Alexis was shorter then Keith, with smooth features. She had White and brown fur in a painted pattern all over her body. And a bright, blond wavy mane. She was wearing an old flannel shirt, the buttons up to her chest were all undone to make way for her bulging belly, the t-shirt underneath unable to cover her up completely, left her underbelly exposed. Other then hat was a plain pair of jeans much like Keith's pair.
Keith returned the favor with another kiss, before asking;
"What're you guys baking in here?" Keith took a deep whiff, having to swallow down some extra saliva. Alexis picked up a full plate of the counter;
"Peanut blossoms." She held the plate near Keith's face, who then took the plate in his own hands. "Taste test?" Alexis asked wryly as she turned and returned to the counter, where a second batch was being mixed. Keith smiled and took another whiff, the smell of freshly baked peanut butter and chocolate was too much to resist. He gingerly took a cookie off the top of the stack and bit off half of it, chewing slowly as the two rich flavors mixed and swirled in his mouth, savoring the guilty pleasure that is the Christmas cookie. He finished the rest of it, and even took another as he set the plate down on the island counter where Alexis was working and popped the whole thing in his mouth while he bent in and gave her another big, rounded kiss.
Alexis swished her tongue around in her mouth afterward;
"Mm, those are good." She said in a humorous fashion. Keith laughed and pulled her in close to himself, their bellies touching one another in a fight for space. They leaned in once more for the biggest and mot passionate kiss thus far, and were instantly lost in each others embrace. It was very warm inside. And outside, it began to snow.
