My suggestion for that - keep an eye on the classifieds. I got my longbow (http://www.furaffinity.net/view/7229962/) just by watching Kijiji and finding an ad from someone who happened to be selling a couple of custom-made ones for basically a quarter of their original price.
While I realize that doing this is a buyer-beware sort of thing, sometimes you get lucky. ^.^
