I was laying against the rough ruins, looking a t the horizon as the set behind the treetops. The mighty pyramid was drawn against the yellow and orange tones of the sky. The last warm rays projected large shadows over the ample yard where the ruins rest.
My ancestors once lived here. My ancestors once were honoured and glorified here. My ancestors once enjoyed the same sun rays and the same fresh breeze that now tickles against my head feathers. I could almost imagine as the long feathered snake, Kukulkán, slithered its way down the stairway in one of the sides of the pyramid, now only his shadow falls and reaches the very bottom.
And so I smile. And now, just like in ancient times, I honour at my ancestors, because without them I wouldn't be here.
