Quick picture from 4 1/2 years ago.
Over Christmas (hope everyone had a great holiday!) I saw the movie "Ted." It... wasn't good. It was vaguely involving, but pretty much just "foul-mouthed, sex-crazed talking teddy bear" from start to finish. Oh, interspersed with Seth MacFarlane's usual eighties fetishism. Sam Jones, from "Flash Gordon", gets talked up heavily a la Marcia's craze for Davy Jones. (He does seem game, however.) Also, everyone seems jazzed about the NORAH JONES CONCERT, OOH NORAH JONES, who lets the movie's hero sing onstage!
So here is my pandering Newshounds cameo! I love you, Brian.

Some episodes. It has its moments, but to me it's just mostly pop-culture regurgitation and amorality-as-humor. His sense of characterization isn't great; sometimes Brian is the normal character and other times he's as much of a jerk as everyone else. It's been a while, though, since I've watched it.
Seth McFarlane is one of those guys who can be a good writer when he's on a tight leash, but when left to his own devices is really self-indulgent. The first few seasons of Family Guy were rather funny I thought, but anything I've seen lately has been pretty... not that good.
I do mostly like Family Guy but then I'm a loud-mouthed, glasses-wearing, fat New England middle aged man....Holy crap! Before I meet my buddies over at the Drunken Clam, let me say...
My politics aren't quite the same as MacFarlane's (other than on a couple social issues) but the show can
still be good, though it's maybe getting a bit stale. I have the first six box sets and was given #7 for Christmas (stuff from 08) and just bought #8 through amazon though I may not go much further than that; but who knows.
I thought Ted was pretty funny though some lines were groaners and needless to say, any movie that starts with a teddy bear doing a bong hit-- er, parental guidance suggested. I'm about a decade or so younger than Seth so now I feel a bit old (the 80s references)...
--Seth when asked how he feels being on Rupert Murdoch's Fox network: "Rupert is a businessman
first and a Republican second"
--Conservative muckraker Andrew Breitbart passed on suddenly; for the record he DID help create the
Huffington Post. One time, Breitbart and MacFarlane were both guests on one of those nighttime
talk shows. When the taping ended, and the two drank, Andrew mentioned how his son was a huge Family Guy fan.
"Call him up," Seth said. Seth proceeded to do a 10 minute comedy routine full of FG characters,
delighting the young lad.

>>After MacFarlane said goodbye, Andrew told him “I critique Hollywood liberal culture for a living, but you now have a free pass for the rest of your life. Thank you.” People can very good sometimes. Here’s a toast to MacFarlane, all politics aside. You gave someone a good memory about the father who loved them that will last a lifetime. Thank you for being decent.
