This year's Christmas was extra special. The main people in my family were able to get together at my parents house. Both my sisters and their families plus my mom and dad were there. We all had dinner, opened up presents, had desert (throw in a bit of a food fight) and then Claude made the announcement that he had a very special gift to give me.
Now, we've pretty much been engaged already - but we had not been able to tell my family. I wanted to make sure they were ALL there first. So...today was the day.
Claude went and picked out a ring for me. It is of my birthstone - the peridot, and is absolutely beautiful. Unfortunately due to all the madness of the holidays - we haven't had the ring sized yet. It'll take 2-3 weeks and we wanted to make sure we had the ring to present to the family. I knew we were going to tell them - but I wasn't expected it to be presented the way it was. I knew something was in store but...well, here's what happened.
After we had everyone gathered together, Claude handed me the gift. I began opening it. Of course he decided to wrap it like 3 or 4 times..so I'm sitting there opening this small wrapped box. I finally get to the box - my entire family is waiting anxiously - as they are definitely expecting something...I open the box and inside is alittle note. As I'm unwrapping the note I notice through the corner of my eye Dustin is getting down on his knee. My entire family is gasping and my mom looked like she was about to cry. The little note I was reading said this "Look behind you" (Claude was standing roughly behind me)..so I turned around and there he was with the ring.
I was speechless. Of course I know the ring doesn't fit, so I took it. He put it on my pinky. He didn't even have to say anything because they all knew. Immediately afterwards the family welcomed him into the family - there were hugs and hand shakes and congratulations and all that. Then they asked when the wedding was. I told them I didn't know yet - but our theme was selected and they may not approve it. I was totally wrong. Our theme is "Zombies" - I'm going to be a zombie bride, Claude a zombie groom.
Needless to say, everyone was all "That is an awesome idea!!!" and we immediately began talking about how to plan it.
Needless to say everyone welcomed Dustin into the family. Everyone loves him. Everyone is now excited. My facebook has been spammed with congrats since I changed my status and uploaded pictures...and now mom says she needs to get a job (and only be semi retired) so she can pay for the wedding lmao.
Anyways...this slightly edited video is of that little piece of paper and my engagement ring on my pinky. I will cherish this day forever.
And you, Claude. I love you with all my heart and I am so glad I get to spend my life with you with full acceptance from my family. You mean the world to me. <3 Merry Christmas sweet heart.
Also if I need to move this to scraps I will.
