Actually, I didn't use specular here for the scales. I used reflections/mirror. Specular and reflection is different thing when it comes to biased renders (they are the same thing in reality). Reflection works better for very shiny things (though I think it is over done here).

In a way, it does have a specular map (reflection map?), but I tone down the reflection... a lot... at post processing. I would try to increase the intensity of the reflection and see.

I'm using blender 3d.
