I finally got around to making an updated picture of myself. This is Tru, the tiger, being his casual Kingly self.
I am.... SO tired right now. I got obsessed with this and so I'm uploading it at 4 in the morning. My contacts are on fire and my eyes want to bleed >___< I need sleep.
Also, If this happens to look eerily similar to a certain CheetahPaws picture--disregard that observation X3 I have been trying to learn from his style and technique, and I think it's all starting to come together!
I am still not a fan of my faces, especially the fur rendering over the cheeks and nose, but that's a problem for another day.
Enjoy!

the nose looks good enough. as for the cheeks, the interesting thing is that the fur grows another direction along the curve of the cheekbone. I'd recommend looking at face close-ups of a lion's mug for it. ^^
aside that, I like the portrait a lot. nice expression, all serious, concerned, and friendly.
oh, and the tummy looks as soft as it is muscled. :)
all in all, regal and appealing.

This king is really skimpily dressed! I am sure his subjects would always be happy kneeling and gape at the view in front of them. Great way to motivate hah. I noticed the little crown shape on his head too.
I think you have your way so it is looking great! If i may, personally i tend to use short strokes for the nose and smudge alot. Time for this king to rest his eyes

under 'smudge tool' use a normal hard edge round brush with pressure sensitive. Check on "sample all layers" and "Finger Painting" at 100% strength (that's the trick)
finger painting will let us drag paints around and with that a back and forth strokes you can make fur really easily!
I was doing a 4hours life painting demo for my students just a few days ago, and one of them also ask me how i do fur and i showed him the same.
I know it varies from different artist, so you can try and just use what works for you.
