One thing that puts me off from some artists' work is the lack of a background - having one creates a sense of context not available in cases where the character is apparently dangling in midair before a blank wall. Here we find our friend Emily Polechatte posing with a rake on a garden path consisting of different-sized flagstones (which has a real-life counterpart not far away from here). But what about those steps behind her? Especially the ones that lead downward toward those dark woods we see in the near distance - what can we expect to find at the bottom?
