Really, the reason we think of book burnings as something horrible is cus in the past, it was a real and very concrete way of destroying knowledge. That no longer applies; I could burn a million copies of a book by loading a bunch of pdfs on a harddrive and then blowing it to Narnia. So book burnings nowadays really only have a symbolic purpose, like burning flags.
