I painted this portrait for my mom, as a Christmas gift for her whole family. This is my mom's older sister, Laurie, whose life was taken by cancer in her early twenties before I was born. I see my mother and each of my aunts in her face, and I grew up knowing who she was. I always felt like I knew her, even though I wasn't alive to meet her. This was tough to paint for emotional reasons, but I am so glad I have the skill set to create this for the people I love.

This is absolutely beautiful Nym, and the story behind it has really touched me for personal reasons. I had lost both grandparents and an uncle on my mom's side of the family before I was born, and my mom would talk about my grandmother and uncle a lot and you can tell how much she misses them each time. It's a beautiful thing to learn about lost loved ones before your time, and yet feel as if you knew them and spent time with them before their passing. =] It's truly beautiful, I'm sure your family will love it!
