More Jewelry stuff. In the two foundation courses offered in jewelry, you're taught two different ring construction methods.
One is the standard band ring, which you learn how to make a bezzel for and set a stone on. Tricky, but pretty easy to repeat once you get the hang of it. I've never posted mine on here because honestly, they're not that nice.
The second method is learning how to make a hollow ring, or H-ring. This is a massive farking pain in the ass. First, you cut out the blank, which has tabs on either end you need to lind up. Once you've done that and soldered it in place, you need to shape your ring, which includes fixing the round hole on top. THEN, you need to shape a sleeve to go inside the blank you just shaped and solder THAT in place, making sure there's no gaps and REALLY making sure you don't try and fill in those gaps with solder, thereby destroying two six-hour classes of work, like I did.
Anyway.
I ended up ging with the more challenging H-ring shape of the two out of brass, which looks like your classic college ring when it's done. Then I made a small pipe out of band ring blanks and some flat silver. And when all was said and done, I finished it off with a Sculpey Piranha Plant epoxied into the pipe. It's sized for my pinkie finger, but it sits about two and a half inches tall. The tail of my chest-burster plush is holding it up in this picture, because I don't have any of the black velvet things you need for displaying jewelry.
