"The Maw-class Heavy Cruiser is affectionately known as the Maw-class Dreadnaught because of it's original purpose. The class was designed by the foremost Rendili Stardrive think tank to replace the ancient Dreadnaught-class Heavy Cruisers that had been a staple of many fleets since the days of the Old Republic. When the advent of the devastating fusion cannon came about, a testbed class was needed to help evaluate the effectiveness of this new weapon in the field, and the Maw was the perfect match.
The Maw was designed to address the deficiencies of the old Dreadnaught design, becoming a well-armed, high-maneuverability anti-capital ship platform that would become on par, or better, than capital ships even 20X her size.
((Classified: Level 2 officers or above))
Not all deficiencies have been address with the final design, sadly. It's weapons are geared strictly against capital ships, rendering her near-defenseless against enemy fighters. Because of the generator space needed, the ships own fighter complement has only improved slightly from the original in a single squadron of TIE Interceptors. This means the vessel will often need to operate with the anti-fighter support from other ships.
What High Command is not ashamed to admit, (at least to officers of the right rank) is that the Fusion Cannon was introduced to us by a rebelling planet who used a single on to destroy an orbiting Executor-class Star Dreadnaught. While not as powerful as a planetary-based weapon, like any, this incident should give you an impression of the power inherent in the Fusion Cannons, especially now that we have taken this technology for ourselves.

At long last, I've brought her back! The last time I successfully drew this ship, I had just come from seeing Revenge of the Sith in a theater. Even though the RP this ship was borne from is long over, I love it too much, it's my greatest starship design success.
Designed from a concept by Chris "Teakake" Highe, wherever he is."
