Name: Mio Mumoto
Nicknames: Little Samurai
Gender: Male
Species: Oshawott
Age: 14
Height: 4'1"
Weight: 96 lbs
Personality:
Stoic, somber, and serious Mio acts a lot older then his real age or the age he looks for that matter. Surprisingly mature for his age Mio will always try to be the calm, cool, and collected head in any situation, looking at the problem or issue logically (as far as he's concerned anyway) and impersonally. Despite this Mio can and will get flustered easily, especially in awkward or social situations due to the fact he doesn't have much in the way of personal or social skills. When flustered Mio tends to stutter and get panicky leading all the way up to fainting if pushed too far. Mio isn't very good with people (as mentioned earlier) and outside of taking the "older authority figure" role has never been able to relate or fit in any with kids his own age (at least before coming to the PCA) leaving him a bit of a loner and not comfortable in crowds. Mio also tends to become sad or sulky from time to time (due to his past) and will pull away from others to be alone with his sadness and because he doesn't like appearing "Weak" in front of other people. Lastly the oshawott operates of his own system of honor which he takes great pride in and will usually refuse to deviate from.
History:
Born the youngest child and only son of the long running Mumoto clan Mio and his 8 years elder sister Saichi inherited a large amount of history including the lessons of swordsmanship passed down by their ancestors and the family's famous kabuki theater. For a brief period life seemed perfect for Mio with a loving older sister, a slightly goofy but doting father, and a beautiful, kind, and gentle mother… then tragedy struck. When Mio was 4 and Saichi was 12 their mother died of a sudden and uncureable cancer tearing an unfillable hole in the family. Barely old enough to understand what was going on Mio had to deal with his father losing himself to grief and his older sister having to drop out of school to help keep the family afloat.
The next several years of Mio's life were turbulent to say the least. His father had lost his mind and become lost in his own delusions (and spent his more lucid moments lost in grief) and his sister was constantly busy with the theater to keep the family business running and food on the table. The young water type was either alone or tagging along with his sister (which she didn't mind so long as he didn't get in the way or get hurt) and became very withdrawn and a bit of a crybaby… which didn't serve him well when he started school and found himself an outcast due to these traits, how quiet he always was, and the rumors going around about his family.
As time passed Mio became more withdrawn to people other than his sister and the theater company… but also slowly began to devote himself to become stronger so he wouldn't hamper his sister anymore. Around this time a few major things happened… one of the first was Mio's father, while still in his delusions, was well enough to begin running the theater again even if a normal casual conversation with the samurott was still impossible. The other was that Saichi, during one of the local fighting tournaments she entered to earn money for the family, was scouted for the pro-leagues which was simply too good an offer for her to refuse.
This helped set Mio's course in life as he decided he would follow his sister to the pros to prove himself to her as he bumped his already demanding training schedule up even more and worked hard to prefect his own style of swordsmanship. Eventually his hard work paid off and he was able to earn a scholarship to the famous PCA where he hoped to become strong enough to fulfill his goal. Oddly enough he also made the first actually friends he'd ever had while there as well. His roommates Gabrield the zorua, who Mio looks after like a little brother, and Addy the scraggy, who butts heads with Mio on occasion but they do have a mutual friendship even if they won't admit it.
Ability: Torrent
Moves:
Freshman: Razor Shell, Fury Cutter, Focus Energy, Protect
Fighting Style:
There are two key components of the Mumoto school of swordsmanship. The first comes from their shells which tend to be slightly or vastly different from oshawott to oshawott. In Mio's case his is unusually broad. The second is self development. Each Mumoto develops their own style depending on their needs and foes… in Mio's case he developed an unusual mix of range and close combat to counter Siachi's expertise in close combat. Using his shell as a boomerang he can send his Razor Shell attack flying with deadly accuracy as well as returning to his hand whether it hits or not. He's even developed a technique that makes the shell speed up and return faster then it went to catch people off guard and nailing them in the back of the heads. He can still use his shell as a sword though with Fury Cutter as well as a shield to try and parry attacks with Protect.
Miscellaneous Facts:
- One of Mio's few non-training or battle related hobbies is playing a shell shaped ocarina Saichi gave him as a birthday present one year. This in fact helped him meet and befriend a pichu by the name of Andrew who pays the ukulele and guitar. Together with Addy, who plays keyboard, the trio has an unofficial and as of the moment unnamed band and practices together from time to time.
- Mio has a slight obsession with darumaka and darmanitan due to the last present his mother ever gave him before passing on was a Darumaka plush and Saichi a Darmanitan plush. His big sister lets Mio keep hers and he treasures them both since they're one of the few things he has that help him remember his mother. Past that one moment his memories of her face and voice are fairly faint much to his shame.
- Mio has recently started to be hounded by a riolu girl named Julie who's taken an interest in the oshawott after his rather extreme workout landed him in the nurses office one too many times. So far Julie has made Mio faint of of sheer blushing awkwardness more time then he's ever been knocked out in battle… she has been less the subtle about her interest in the water type and poor Mio has NO clue what to do as far as it's concerned.
- Mio has a pair of pet joltik, a normal and a shiny one, named Bolt and Zap he keeps in a terrarium in his room. He cares for and spoils the little fluff balls silly even letting them nestle into his hair despite the occasional shock they give him… unfortunately the two are very skilled at escaping their terrarium meaning he occasionally has to search the door room for them… or wait to hear Addy, who has a fear of spiders, start screaming when one of them surprise him.
