Well, the story is this, Zecora made the mistake of telling the CMC a trickster-story (think things like br'er Rabbit, or for am ore modern example, bugs bunny) and they are inspired to cause mischief, generally good-natured mischief of course, they are still the CMC, but mischief nontheless. However, their antics affects the life of the mane 6, who are each dealing with some personal problems. Rainbow Dash's problem in this is that she blew all her money on betting on wonderbolt-races and is broke as hell, its written mainly with the status quo in season 2 in mind.
