Alright, here we go! The Last “Epic Orchestral Composition”. That’s right. Let me just say that if you are only watching me for the “EOCs” that I’ve made, then just so you know I’m going to stop putting tags like that in the title. You’re going to have to check the tags.
I guess you could say this one’s the finale, but I will continue to make orchestral comps, I just didn’t believe that they all fell under the title “Epic”.
I have a few things to say about this one. First, this is my first orchestra March theme! Second, I wanted to post this around Christmas because it was inspired by “The Nutcracker Suite”. Third I would like to thank my friend
Karuno for helping me not just on this but for all his help with my music. This would sound totally different if he hadn’t helped me with the sound quality. I really tried going with a more real orchestra sound. I added some type of things I wouldn’t normally put in my comps and
Karuno helped make it sound more real with the sound quality and mixing too.
Alright! With that said I give to you March of The Proud! Please like usual tell me what you think. Is there anything I can improve on? Is there anything you would’ve done differently? Please let me know!

Very well written.
As a tuba player for 15 years, you CANT have orchestra without it, love it... but at @2:25 the bass trombone (or tuba) is a bit too nasty. A bop rather than a blat would sound a better. It blends better with the rest of the orchestra playing staccato. My area of performance was Brass, blats are awesome and are needed.. personally everything else is beautiful, but nails on a chalkboard are always on the oom-pahs (Tuba terminology), plus, brass players should not play like they have to change their pants ;). Those noises are more for comedic purposes. I can also hear swelling in the brass ends. Like the shape of a brass instrument, the sound is supposed to grow, but not in a "fwah" sound, its too drastic and sudden... but this could all be just the sound file and completely out of your control... as could all the sounds... But if this was EVER to be conducted, those would be the small changes i would make.
other little things:
your timpani crecendo at the very end was slower than the parts it was playing with
Aside for that, this is a very festive feeling to it. I can definitely hear Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky. When i was a theory major, i studied him and Holst exclusively.
Keep up your great work MesserWolf!!

Thank you for the helpful comment. Um, the original didn't have that blat sound to it, and it was much quieter. I asked
karuno to make the trombones more noticeable and he did xD but he did a great job. I should of said something about that part.

Yeah, i usually single our the instrument in the patching and make it louder before it reads the dynamics in the actual piece.. so i can get the sound of a soft instrument... but it is still loud enough to be heard, even louder than most parts. I have no clue of which program he uses, but i am envious ;).
Keep up the awesome job!

That is -indeed- EastWest/Quantum Leap Symphonic Orchestra.
This said, I didn't want to play with the volume, but rather on the velocity, for a piano trombone can't compete with ff strings.
It NEEDS to be played fortissimo, especially if single. Using artifices like post production gain is completely killing the realism, which Messer and myself agreed not to.
Anyway, thanks for the critique. I'm still learning how to use ProTools and it's kinda tricky sometimes (should have take Cubase ><) so having opinions on the final result definitely helps.

I adore this song's opening. The whole first part has a pretty festive feel to it, quite right for the season. Considering how green everything is... no, wait.
The second bit starts as a nice contrast to the very loud bit before, something I like. All in all I think the transition was well done. As to that part itself, it's good, really grand - plus, I really enjoy the staccato in this song.
Yeah, I'm not really good at giving constructive advice but well. All in all, I like it. You may continue your fine work.

Masterful transitions as usual. The way you built on the theme at the beginning by having other instruments join in sync was an excellent way to open. We went from a few bare woodwinds to a brassy full orchestra and a barely noticed! Excellent use of tympanies to back up the melody. Those drums almost never see all the love they deserve. This is another one with a story to tell, and I absolutely adore that element in a composition. You picked up the pace there in the middle exactly where you needed to. You had an excellent hook to get everyone into it and kept up the excitement throughout. This one had me humming along quite a bit by the end. Fantastic work!
