I like this picture. But I don't like your attitude. That other artist's just drawing, after all. His art may not be top quality but there's no harm meant; you shouldn't take it so personally.

I also say this because I've been in my shoes here on FA. Ever got comments from people saying they hate your art? It's not fun. So it's pretty foul of you to go and say that to somebody else. You're kind of being just like the assholes who've attacked me and my art and gifts.

Also, you can not look at it by not looking at it. See thumbnail, see it's not what you like, and move on. Not click into the picture and leave a mean comment.

Other people, for some reason, see fit to mention that you've lost their respect because you drew a reversal piece.

You have single-handedly gained mine.

I have a rather large number of role reversal and counter-attack commissions in my own gallery; when I see a piece or a scenario I don't like, my usually instantaneous reaction would be to see someone that could the reverse of it, and do it better than the person that did the original. The better the art, the more people end up seeing that picture and thinking positively of it - and thinking positively of the scenario as well.



To those that might disagree - including Charem (and I only mention you because you've been the most vocal - and given the prior things you've dealt with, you do have that right) - I should mention that there is a VAST difference between "role reversal" and "counter attack".

Role reversal is "I don't have a problem with the artist, but I really don't like the scene they did, so I'm going to flip the scenario."

Counter-attack is "I have reason to take personal offense at the original piece and the response piece is not only a jab at the scenario but at the artist."

A counter-attack may also include a reference to the real life artist somehow - if, say, it was a macro/micro stomp piece being countered, then one of the other micro characters being smushed could also be a rendition of the artist of the original piece; that would not be necessary in a role reversal.

http://www.furaffinity.net/view/8833758/ - one good proper example of a reversal. No issue with the artist but I didn't like Mewtwo being dommed unwillingly so I just had it flipped.

Lashed out at a scene depicting the reverse, but there's also a direct reference to the original artist if you look hard enough; one that if the original artist were to see it, they would know it was created specifically because of them. (A direct artist reference in a counter doesn't need to be blatantly obvious to the world!)

The first three images in my gallery are of a scene that was specifically designed to get at one particular person (not on FA) who did a fair bit of bashing both myself and my friends. It's a bit more NSFW so I'll leave anyone curious to go to those images on their own.



I do believe this piece would have been better with the intent of a role reversal the first time around, rather than a counter. As has been pointed out, you're clearly the better artist. Just draw what you like each time they draw something they like that you don't. The cream will rise to the top, the better artwork will be noticed more, and you'll get more supporters to your point of view that way. (Though I might recommend coloring the reversal piece when the original work you're responding to is also in color!

One other note here, if you do decide to take my advice - in situations where you are doing counters against particular people, you maaaay want to make sure the person you're countering isn't (A) also on FA and (B) one of those types of people that gets report-happy to the admins. You may need to make sure your counter-pieces, if including references to the original artist, are on websites that artist does not have an account on, so it would be more difficult for them to be removed. I have a few counters in existence - and a few others in the works - that I won't be able to post on FA.

It's not the Pic that makes them lose respect, it's his Foul attitude towards the other artist. Which quite honestly, i agree with the others, it's rude and mean to insult another artist because they're work isn't the best.

As for you mewtwo mewtwo, I REALLY appreciate you actually supporting my opinion on this (even though it was rather harsh against another artist). I SHOULD have done a role-reversal instead of a counter. But I guess when the artist said 'Don't like it, Don't look at it', I was pissed since seeing it on the search engine when looking for Brian vore made me ticked. It was just the intent and such of this picture that got to me, and Gruine's own words.

I've had more harsh thoughts than Gruine did today towards other artists and what they've produced, and their intent behind it. (Of the 40 people on my FA blocklist, 11 of them either have drawn, written, or commissioned work I would be considered defematory to Mewtwos.) You know I of all people view how Mewtwo is seen and treated on par with, if not above religious fanatacism, so if anything I would be the right one to talk to Gruine here - whether it be to talk him down from going any further or to let him know when a situation really calls for pushing past role reversal into where the art actually would be revenge.

IMO, there ARE times where lashing out through artwork is warranted. In situations where someone has gathered up their fanbase to attack someone, distorted what they've said to make them look worse than they really are, strung them along with long notes back and forth just to try and elicit responses to make fun of them on their Tumblr, then yeah, I'd say an art counter is warranted, at the very least. (And yes, I was referring to something I dealt with off of FA.) Hey, look at it this way - would you rather someone spend a few hours making a piece that says "fuck you" to someone that pissed them off, or end up actually considering or even following through on a real life threat? (It's happened before - http://www.techrepublic.com/blog/te.....nline-spat/933 ) When it's kept to something imaginary like artwork, it could be better than someone be allowed to vent in such a manner, rather than letting feelings fester for years in which things to get to the point like the above link.

This was not one of those times where a counter was warranted, but it very well could have become one if the artist behind the piece that this was meant to reverse continued to produce things with Brian as unwilling, specifically to grate at Gruine.

tl;dr; sometimes a "fuck you" pic is the much lesser of two evils.

And, through conversations I've had with you, I know well some of your thoughts and views - and of course, you know I've expressed my distaste for such views from you too, sometimes. Honestly, I feel that makes you unqualified, without trying to be mean, to talk to him. I mean, by all means feel free. But I feel that the best person to discuss this is somebody who knows how to treat cartoon characters, artwork, and such, without -too- much personal emotions coming into this. And honestly, I'm probably not the best person, but at least I try to remember that fiction is fiction, and I don't need to get myself worked up about it. You...um...I've seen you get worked up. I'm gonna have to pretty much completely agree with the first sentence of your second paragraph. I do not believe responding in a negative way towards something is at all justified. Understandable, in some cases, sure. The guy who gets his car hit in the back by an unobservant driver behind him, may decide to cuss out the other driver; it's understandable. But it's still not right. Lashing out is childish and never warranted, and I honestly feel kind of sad to see you say that. :(

To your question, rather would I see somebody spend a few hours working on a 'fuck you' piece of art, or doing a real-life threat? I would answer 'neither'. Because, rather than accept the 'lesser of two evils', I would prefer to choose C: Be an adult and just move past the situation which is bothering me. Do I always choose 'C'? No, I'm only human. But I do strive to choose 'C' as much as I can, when things rile me up.

Venting can help, and I don't oppose venting, but there's WAY more constructive ways to vent than you seem to imply here. Even just beating a pillow, for instance, harms nobody in any way. I don't mind that Gruine 'vented' with this art - I mind that he name-dropped this other individual, went off about how shitty the other person's art was, etc. (Happily, I see Gruine has removed the insults, which I appreciate.) If it were just the art and he was venting with it and he had stayed respectful and not brought it up in public to others as to how he hated this guy, then I wouldn't've commented in the first place; that would have been fine.

Well, when I get angry I usually play sandbox style games, since they give me the ability to do pretty much whatever I want. It's also nice to listen to some relaxing music. Though, those are just my methods of resolving any anger issues I have.
