I don't think their sourness would be the main problem for that li'l phox; the trouble with hypertrophied fruits and vegetables is that they usually not very edible, their central parts being decayed and so on. There was an article in IIRC Smithsonian Magazine about giant pumpkins and the work involved in keeping them from self-destructing before they could be hauled away for the giant pumpkin contest. Talk about useless.
