Found this guy (or girl) the other day perched on the fence in the back yard with a very angry squirrel shuffling back and forth next to him along the fencetop, angrily flicking his tail.

Assuming you're in North America, this would be a Red-Shouldered Hawk:

The red striations on the breast are pretty indicative. You also see light horizontal bars in red like that on adult Cooper's Hawks and Sharp-Shinned Hawks, but those would have a white bar above the eye, which this does not.
