I can only imagine somebody sitting on the front porch of a long-gone house a hundred years ago, shaded by the tree which outlived this farmstead. Their car road gone for a walking trail. Their smashed up radio sitting in a clump of bushes behind the unkempt lot. Their fields unused and overgrown.
This park not only serves as an escape from suburbia but in many cases, if you know where to look and what to look for, can offer a glimpse into an era long past. This is one of the earliest colonized areas of the united States. Farming has been done here for around 300 years. What is easily overlooked can offer a fascinating glimpse into the lives of early settlers.

Maybe it is because autumn always has seemed to be a melancholy time of the year to me that this picture seems haunted in some way. And then I read your commentary and … it is almost as if there where ghosts in this picture whispering their stories.
You have an artist’s eye for capturing very expressive scenes, Timid.

Fall, for me, has always been a surreal time of year. You can almost feel the ghosts and history here around here at that time. For that reason my favorite time to hike is around the fall. Its like the past reveals itself more. Maybe its for that reason that the Pagan holiday that became Halloween was based in the fall.
Thank you, man. I really do enjoy scenes like this
