This is a little piece I'm working on for a string orchestra with harp and three soloists (one violin, one viola, one cello), that is based on a Christmas tune from Spain. I am not much for trying to immitate other composers but this time I did want it to sound like the arrangements that R. Vaughan Williams makes for string instruments. I also want to add soft organ to this but the MIDI organ sounds so atrocious that I did not even add it to the midi yet. This wip includes the first cello solo and violin solo of the piece, but there will be more in later sections. Anyway, enjoy!

Very beautiful .. normally, i'm not all that into christmas music, it tends to make me sad.. maybe that's just the meskwaki in me, i don't know.
MIDI has come a long way since the 80's.. i remember when MIDI playback on most computers sounded like sixteen frogs playing a kazoo..

Yes, it is historical .. a part of colonial history that is not taught in public schools.
Between the years of 1701 - 1734 the Meskwaki Nation was reduced from 20,000 to less than 350 by the French Colonial Army in what has come to be known as the Fox Wars .. better known to the Meskwaki as the Black Robe Genocide War of Annihilation. We were given two choices by King Louis XV.. submit to french colonial rule and convert to christianity, or die. In 1723 he signed a decree to shed the blood of every last Meskwaki.. in effect, a proclamation of genocide. I consider myself fortunate to have ever been born.

Agh that was very hard to read because of how terrible it sounds. It was not unknown to me that the French like most of the Europeans committed many atrocities to our peoples here, but reading the details gave me anxiety and sadness. Often times I think they used Christianity as an excuse to commit the genocide and not feel bad about it; but it is genocide nonetheless, and its the genocide story that no one wants to talk about; the one that occurred in these lands.
When I think of Christ though, I think of the Christ who was born with a humble beginning, who grew up to challenge the authority of his day, to be a voice for the voiceless, to bring social justice, and die because of it. I have heard others say something similar to this; If Jesus were born today, he would have been born on an Indian Reservation, or a poor African Village, or something of the like, humble beginnings.

The French were much like the Spanish.. They came to this new world to conquer it and claim it for themselves, and God was their way of justifying these atrocities.
As you think of Christ, those are his teachings as they should be. He died for man's sins.. that's how much he loves us.

p.s. Please don't misunderstand me.. I do not fault Christianity, or any other organized religion for what happened 300 years ago. It is sad when people take these good words and twist them to fit their own political agenda. Too many have already died in the name of their respective god and country. God Bless.
See my response, I didn't accuse you of it, I know exactly what you meant and I know how you feel because I feel the same. I don't blame Christianity, I blame the people that used it as a tool to justify their grave atrocities, and people still do that to this day.
When I write or play or listen to music about Christ, I think of the Christ I described in my other post, like I said. Thank you for your words and perspective. It is important to voice these perspectives so that they are not forgotten.
