Three more sketches from my 'rapidsketch' project.
Friday (An animal I don't normally draw OR someone else's character)
I had intended to do a nice sketch for Out-of-the-Boks, because he was nice enough to leave me some constructive views and supportive comments when I first started posting up. I've never drawn Springboks, or gazelle generally before. It didn't work out, but instead I did achieve the 'point' of this project - If I ever need to draw an animal I'm not used to again, I'm going to do a series of rapid-sketches of the animal before I try to do the underlying sketch for the piece. I just spent too much time 'working out' how a Springbok's face 'fits together... and relied on my eraser far too much to get an organic feel for it. Result was a really disjointed sketch that took too long.
Saturday - Random Furry Fetish
I typed "Furry Fetish One" into google images and the first real 'fetish' that appeared was called 'Furry Bending Fetish'. Alright! I thought. Contortionism... that's something I've never done before. Result is a sketch that's not really 'yiffy' and the proportions are all over the place, but was great fun to draw. I reckon I'll be doing this again :)
Sunday - My own character
Figured I'd do an icon-sketch. This was definitely a pick-me-up. After fumbling around new animals and new positions, it was nice to rapidsketch something I *know* how to draw! The odd part is, I've messed up the muzzle alignment.. mostly because (I think) I had lost a bit of confidence through struggling through the last two rapidsketches. Another nice lesson learned; whenever doing something new, I should occasionally put it down and be a bit self-indulgent by drawing something for myself.
All of these were done within the 10 minute deadline. The icon is the only one I think I *might* ink to completion, but I already want to re-draw the other two.
Rapidsketch Project: The Rules
1) 10 mins sketch every day on a different theme.
2) If I like the sketch, I can finish it but I am only allowed an hour to do so (so the longest I am allowed to spend is 1 hour from the moment my pencil hits the paper.)
3) If I decide to 'finish' a piece, I have to finish it. No quitting half-way through no matter what horrible mistakes I make / realize I've made.
4) Grabbing a cup of tea doesn't count as drawing time ;)
5) NO tweaking allowed after scanning - ONLY whole image Brightness+Contrast adjustments can be made to reduce sketch lines.

Aw, when I saw this in my inbox I thought, "SOMEONE DREW AN ORYX. Must see!"
And then I catch my username in the description! That's really nice, thank you! :D
And yes, it is sort of hard to figure out how ungulate faces in general "work" and "fit together." Especially if you're doing an anthro. For canines and felines (and predators overall) it's easier because, like humans, they've got binocular vision built in, but ungulates... don't. trogan has the best anthro ungulate faces I've seen; they look thoroughly like their species, but can emote like a human's. Check him out :)

Gawdammit. Browser went 'back' when I backspaced and lost the comment I put here. I'm totally shattered at the mo, so I'll leave rewriting it til tomorrow.
Probably the only actually important bits were : I'm glad this achieved what it was supposed to (which was to say thank you in a small way) :) And Oryx are cooooooool. I've always thought so. But, like Gnu, it's such an awesomely weird skull shape that I've never had the incentive to put myself through the process of working it out. When I finally did tho, I enjoyed it :D There will be moarz
