So I thought I'd show you an example of how how I go about putting a 'sketch' stage together before I sart linework with pencils.

This is obviously the roughs for the 'Fangs For Nothing' comic I did for  anubiiswerewolf

Basically, my background as an animator is the reason I use coloured pencil for my sketch stage, and I find it to be a very accurate way of getting down mood, feeling and motion quickly. As you can see, there is quite often a real brevity of line on my first take through, its just about getting out whats in my head onto the paper as quickly as possible. Sometimes I will do a second take through with the chromacolor pencil, but more often then not I will just move onto pencil stage, and use the chromacolour pencil to inform in I need to. I tend to not worry too much about smaller details/figures until later, its about getting the dynamism of the shot down first of all. I did a fair bit of storyboarding kinda stuff before, but I've never done it professionally, so I do the best I can. Until Matter I had never done a comic in my life, so theres been a lot to learn.
