A while ago,
LogenPikachu made a picture of his character in a box, located here:

The scene really struck me, reminding me of a game I lost years ago: Kirby 64. I had not played the game in so long that I barely remembered anything about it other than one level, the one where you go down a river in a little wooden boat. Anyway, I decided to draw this picture, a parody of that level. Logen and Amptari are going down the river in their own little wooden boat.
---
"See? I told you this would be fun!" Logen told Amptari. The Pikachu's smile was as bright as the sunlight shining on them. They had worked all morning on the little wooden box they called a boat. Or rather, they spent all of ten minutes spray painting "S.S. Pepsi" on the side of the wooden box they found. It was hard work, after all! Amptari, however, was not smiling. His dark blue hands were clenched on the sides of the boat. He felt like the small craft was going to flip at any moment! The little boat rocked back and forth in the current, steadily gaining speed.
"Come on in! I think it'll hold both of us!" Logen said.
"I'm not so sure... It doesn't sound like a good idea..." the blue Ampharos replied.
"C'mon, we're not gonna go fast! Besides, you just wanna waste all the work we did and let me have all of the fun?"
"...Fine, move over. You promise we're not going to go fast?"
"Yeah. Front seat's mine!"
"Fine by me!"
As Amptari stepped into the boat, he felt the little wooden crate move a little in the current. He didn't even have to push off. It slipped off of the banks on its own. Amptari probably wouldn't have had the courage to push off anyway. But, once they were close to the middle of the stream and Amptari couldn't see the bottom, he really didn't want to risk stepping out now!
A splash of water hit Amptari, snapping him back to reality. He should have bailed out while he could! Now, they were going pretty fast. The trees along the stream were just a blur! (At least, to Amptari they were.)
"I thought you said we weren't going to go fast!" he said.
"We're not going fast!" Logen countered.
...
"I think we're gonna tip over!'
"No, we're not. We're gonna be fine!"
...
Suddenly, Logen shouted, "Oh, man, there wasn't a waterfall on the map!"
"I'm gonna- Wa-watefall?!"
---
That day, they returned home, soaked, and with a wooden box that needed some repairs. They both got cleaned up, and just before Amptari went to bed, Logen said, "Hey, I know how we can improve our boat! It'll be ready tomorrow!"
Amptari calmly applied pressure from the palm of his hand onto his face. But, he did smile a little!
---
I am extremely satisfied with this picture! I just made a quick sketch and realized that the subject was so fun that I worked with it more and more, inking it, adding the boat, and the background. I love how the shading came out (including backlighting, something I'm starting to incorporate into my works) and I also colored the line art, even if I used only one color. I think it made a big difference, though. The characters don't look so sharp and rigid. I tried to make it look a little later in the day, in the afternoon. For those of you who remember Kirby 64, you probably already recognized what gave me the inspiration for this picture. Now, imagine the song that played in the same level!
And to you, the reader:
