Mmmm, black treacle! TJ's in charge of the sticky stuff!
TJ is an awesome fops, who's super-clever and friendly and nice and gets a lot of great pictures featuring some of my favourite TV shows! Merry Christmas, TJ! *hugs*

I always thought it was the same stuff that Americans call 'molasses', but wikipedia tells me it isn't... I guess it's just treacle. And there's different kinds - treacle tarts are made with golden syrup, but black treacle is a different kind of thing entirely, it's got a unique taste that is hard to describe...
I've never found an equivalent. Molasses is too "molassesy" and dark corn syrup really doesn't work exactly, either. I have a few recipes from the UK, and just use whatever I have on hand (either dark syrup or molasses). My oven hasn't exploded with the substitution, so it must be OK.
I always thought treacle and molasses were synonyms too *researches* Hmmm apparently the North American equivalent is Blackstrap Molasses...

Hmm sounds like treacle and molasses are both sort of families of things that you get when you make sugar, and they overlap some, so there are some kinds of treacle that are the same as some kinds of molasses, but then there are some kinds of treacle that aren't molasses at all and some kinds of molasses that aren't treacle ... I'm getting all confused now. Treacle-ology is hard!
I wonder if the T in TJFoxxxx stands for Treacle? *scritches head*

I know molasses is great in cookies, but I don't know what kind ...
*hugs back!* I was getting caught up! I've been so busy I barely had time to draw and put in a happy word on a journal here and there. But I have a few days off work, then back to work next week, then two whole weeks off!
*blush* Well ... you're a wonderful squirrel! So there! :)
