The Amish women from my hometown run around barefoot with their ankles showing all the time in the summer. I'm not entirely sure that exposing the ankle is considered "offensive". At least, not by the Amish communities in Pennsylvania and Western New York. Other places, I'm not entirely sure of though, so I could be wrong!
