here is a story I wrote in High School
THE RETURN OF THE DRAGONBARD
There once was a young boy who was strange in his way of speaking to others. He was extremely quiet and kept to himself. The boy loved to sing about life before the Great War broke out. Now, he sings alone because all his friends were either enslaved or killed by the enemy.
The date is 15 January 2990. The prophesied Ragnorok has begun.
The Great War began as a minor conflict between the better armed United States and the inefficient Iraqi military. When Iraq brought its nuclear weapons to bear, the other countries declared war on the lonely country led by an ignorant, perverted, sloppy, and foolish dolt named Soddumb Nobrain. When the countries brought their weapons on line, the foolish Iraqis started the war by firing their nuclear weapons at the United States who, in return, fired upon them with all of their weapons, thus destroying a good part of the African continent. As the weapons of the Iraqis hit their designated regions, they created the major beginning part of the devastating war. When the fighting began, strange phenomena began to happen. Ancient monsters of great evil ranging from goblins to demons to vampires appeared and began to distort the physical plane of existence. Three days after their arrival, people began to lose their grip on their memories.
Suddenly, a flash of bright light exploded onto the battlefield. When the light faded, four unnatural looking avians appeared. Two of the great avians were iridescent silver; the other two were an obsidian-like colour, with horns, claws, and teeth of ivory. Their eyes glowed like lake-fire. As they landed, the leader of the dragons spoke to the boy, "You are Bard-born and you can drive this evil back off your world like your ancestors did on our home world of Tiroror."
With that, she bade him to mount and she told him that she would show him the freedom of the sky. As they flew they both witnessed the killing and the destruction the Evil forces caused as it fought the forces of light for control of the area and to plague the world and its people. The dragons' names were Night-Fire, Star-Song, Snow-Fire, and Night-Phoenix, and they were led by the great dragons Night-Pheonix and Snow-Fire. The Bard leader, Prince Eliric, rode the great dragon Night-Phoenix. Together they led the forces of the Graven Light. The evil forces followed the dark overlord Cramsmellious.
As the forces gather to fight, the white dragon Snow-Fire tells the boy Torin that he is the lost son of King Tariel and Queen Kari-Wren, the first bards to repel the evil Dark from their world of Tiroror. "If I am the lost son of these great warriors, then why am I on this world instead of my homeworld with my parents?" asked the boy.
Snow-Fire replies softly, "You have a mission to save both worlds this time because the overlord has killed both history and your parents in order to conquer Tiroror."
"Snow-Fire, what is my name and what does it mean? I have forgotten everything because there is a strange blankness preventing me from remembering what I am, I think. What is the blankness?"
"Your name, my prince, is Torin. It means the uniter of bards. You are correct about the blankness. The Dark is trying to prevent you from rediscovering the true nature of your powers and how to use them to save both worlds from their evil."
"Snow-Fire, are you my special dragon?"
"Yes, my prince, I am your special dragon and I think we will make a good team in this fight against the Dark."
During the conversation, the forces of the Graven Light was being hard pressed by the evil forces. The Dark was beginning to win. The dragons began to surround the prince. And they began to sing about the past of the world. The song started to affect the Dark and it began to retreat. Suddenly, the song started to falter and weaken as the Dark started to kill the unguarded bards. The Dark continued its attack on the forces of the Graven Light, and it started killing off the dragons by ripping out their throats with sharp and deadly teeth and claws. As they fought, many bards were killed by the Dark soldiers. Desperately pressed, the dragons tried to continue the song but were unable to because of the lost bards. All but three were killed. The survivors were Snow-Fire, Night-Pheonix, and Prince Torin who was lost in the midst of battle.
After the massacre, the two dragons began searching for the missing prince. In despair, they found not a trace of the son of the King of Aruic. They returned to their homeworld. Engulfed in such grief, they parted company to continue the search on Tiroror. Snow-Fire decided to try to sleep off some of the grief of the loss of her beloved bard so she came to the mud pits of the Trundeth Slew.
Eight years pass. The Dark has managed to take the Earth. In the great muds of the Trundeth Slew, Snow-Fire awoke. Stretching, she made a horrendous sucking sound as she rose from the thick mud. Slowly she looked around and spied another of her species. He was black with a deep gold tint. When their eyes met, they both simultaneously rose to their haunches. The male began to complain loudly about the Slew being empty of the normal creatures of the pit. She said to him with a slight hint of amusement, "You should really lower your voice because if you don't I'll have to hurt you and I don't really want to do that. OK?"
"Okay, I am truly sorry. I didn't realize that I was shouting and I will lower my voice. I am wondering, what is your name and who is your bard?" He asked sheepishly.
Shocked, she replied, "My name is Snow-Fire and my bard's name is Torin. What is your name and what is the present status of our kind in the war against the Dark?"
"Don't you remember me, my sister? It is I, Night-Pheonix, and the status of our kind isn't very good. Prince Torin has been seen in the area that King Tariel is now supposedly buried. Only, I think that both he and his wife are still alive because Kiri's diary was discovered by your bard there in Castle Aruic. I also believe that he is now in the hands of the Dark overlord, but it is rumored that he escaped and now lives with the otters of Nightlake. I really don't know if he is there or not."
"I can sense him. Only, I don't know which direction he is in." She said quietly. "Well, let's go find him and get rid of this disease our beloved planet has on it."
"Agreed, let us begin the search for him in Aruic."
Three days later, Snow-Fire felt a strange longing to join with Night-Pheonix in the ritual of mating. He also had this feeling about her. They rose together to start the search but it ended up in a chaotic flight of love. Starting with a long chaotic chase, then, they circled each other, dove into the ocean's watery depths, and finally ended with the act of mating as they exploded from the ocean's surface. After mating, they began to build the nest for the eggs. The nest was placed atop of the Dragonslair Mountain's peaks.
They began the search after the nest was finished. As they hunted, they found no trace of the young prince. After scouting the area, for three months they were unable to find Torin anywhere. In despair Snow-Fire returned to the nest to lay her eggs.
A few months later, six mottled eggs hatched. The hatchlings were fed shark, many types of fish, and old sheep. They were also taught all the history of their species as well as how to use the power of their song imagery to destroy the hold of the vile Dark. The young ones named themselves in the ancient tradition of the Singing Dragons. The three females named themselves Wind-Storm, Rain-Rider, and Moon-Fire. The males named themselves Shadow-Song, Night-Hider, and Star-Blossom. While learning how to fly, the largest of the males, Night-Hider, would often find either his tail or his hind foot caught between the branches of the nest causing him to fall face first into the side of the nest and painfully hit his nose against the unyielding stone. Laughing, the young Night-Hider would try the exercise again or until he got it right.
Later that night, the hatchlings decided to chase each other around the nest and try to cause as much as chaos any group of adolescent dragons could cause in a short time. They did many types of crazy stunts like flying at high speeds and then turn at the last second in order to avoid slamming into the mountain and killing themselves before they reached maturity.
As the dragons grew their powers increased as well as their appetites. Snow-Fire and Night-Pheonix decided to teach the young Wind-Storm, Rain-Rider, Moon-Fire, Shadow-Song, Night-Hider, and Star-Blossom how to hunt for themselves and to protect themselves from detection by the Dark. Their training began with the intimate use of their songs for different types of magic they have at their disposal as they fight the Dark and find their Bards.
Night-Hider said. "Why is the Dark so determined to take over the minds of everyone?"
"Because, they want to control everyone's mind so they can turn them into mindless slaves." Snow-Fire responded with an angry grimace.
Star-Blossom asked, "How do we destroy them in order to save everyone? How do fight this menace without our bards beside us? How do we find out who our bards are? Who will lead us in our search?"
"Well, I don't know how we are going to destroy this threat to our world but, your leader will arise when the time has come for him or her to make themselves known.
As for your bards you will know when you find them my children." Snow-Fire and Night-Pheonix said together.
"Wind-Storm, would you like to hear a song that was written of the famous Dragon, Bazaun, the creator of the Silveron Lyre, the most powerful instrument a only Dragonbard can use against the Dark. This song was written by and is about the father of my bard, Tariel, the lost prince of castle Aruic in the days the Dark attempted to take Tiroror the first time. The darkest time of the dragonbard's history is the loss of the memory of the Silveron Lyre and the story behind the creation of the Lyre. The song tells of the perils Tariel went through to find out about the Lyre, where it was hidden, how it was made and of what it was made from, the types of spells that was cast upon it, and by whom. The story also says the greatest battle shall be won by a simple song, which is basically how the story goes in the song, but if you really want all of the facts, see if you can find Tariel's Dragon, Steam-Rider who is said to live near the Nightlake valley. That is, she is still around to tell you the story." Said Snow-Fire wryly.
Rain-Rider asked. "Where is the valley of Nightlake, because I sense that a few bards are staying there to avoid the powers of the vile dark. What is the significance of the otters in the war?"
Night-Pheonix said with amusement, "The valley lies a few leagues away from Castle Aruic just beyond the sea. The otters of Nightlake saved Tar and nursed him back to health and taught him many things such as how to weave seaweed into something useful. He in turn, taught them how to use weapons to defend themselves from all enemy invaders. Their leader was called Tonikkaur. He was a rare white otter and had the ability to see into the future in the sacred shell. Unfortunately, he was killed in the last battle by a dark soldier. The battle was won by the Forces of the Light and Tonikkaur was unable to be saved by the healers including the return of the unicorns that wandered healing those who could be healed. The battle, if memory serves me correctly, was going bad until the bards recovered the Lyre and sung the song of the Grandfather of all of our kind and the battle was won."
Moon-Fire asks, " Will we ever be able to see the Lyre?"
Snow-Fire responds, "Yes, you will. You are to go to Nightlake and find those bards and return them to the Lair."
As the young dragons left the lair, Snow-fire and Night-Phoenix returned to the search for Torin. Meanwhile, in Night-lake, the three bards, Tora, Davin, and Saria, all watched the otters train their young in close combat in case of the return of the great evil that almost destroyed their world several years ago when Tariel was a small boy. The elder explained that the reason for such training was to prevent any vulnerability of the speaking animal nation and to defend the castle at all costs from hostile take over.
"This is the reason of the training for you and your brother and sister Tora, because you are also kin to the missing bard Prince Torin and the heirs to the throne."
And the adventure continues.......
