Chocobo!
Gotta love chocobos. There's something inherently cute about them. (And yet, having played FFTactics, I can state that they also can kick like the dickens.....so perhaps there's a bit of earthbound-avian solidarity to my fancy of the breed... ^_^; )
Doodle shortly after arriving at MFF '07, late at night during an art party. Later, nice people saw my sketchpad and bought him off me. ^_^ For the wins!
Prismacolor markers and pencils, with micron/fancy-felt-tip inks.

Chocobos and your style of art just are a natural match. :>
Even better, the later FF games started heavily basing chocobos off another, much more predatory-looking riderbird, the Horseclaws of Miyazaki's Nausicaa manga.
(The story behind the Toriuma is in itself interesting; they are highly intelligent and recognize kinship strongly. The two that appear in Nausicaa, Kai and Kui. are siblings and readily recognize one another as such. And quite unlike chocobo, they could be taught to wear and use breathing masks, a vital survival trait in Nausicaa's post-apocalytpic world).

They do seem to have a fascination of large birds rather then horses for their fantasy steeds. Why is something I can't begin to guess, considering how important horses were throughout ancient Japanese history. Yet Western fantasy still is mostly horse-bound, while the Japanese, they get Horseclaws instead. :>
I would NOT want to be on the bad end of a chocobo kick, though. Ostriches can kill, and they are smaller, lighter and less muscular by far then chocos. That kick can probably smash through medium armour.
