A friend was kind enough to share with me a couple hundred images of covers of old sci-fi magazines and pulp fictions, and wow, is that art ever inspiring! This was a blast, and the possibilities for more of this type of thing are endless!
This particular piece was inspired by this and this. I also made the texture from an old book cover scan!

contrary to the saying, more often than not a book's cover will frequently tell you if you are the intended audience. Most publishers have learned how to market very well with covers, and their aesthetic usually fits what you'd expect.
It's actually how I've found some of my favorites.

Hah, thanks so much! I did a tutorial last year that might be of help: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/5953550/
For this particular picture I did a much more straightforward process though. I used an old brown paper texture and took a scanned book cover with a starscape, blacked out the center, and ended up with this. Overlay the former, set the latter to screen, copy-paste a price tag from another scan and this is roughly what you get ^^

i must argue on suit design. the tail is a liability in space, and could get chopped off by angry passing space crap. Astronauts of any kind would be expected to shave that poof down, to make the tail as small a physical liability as possible. Plus, it would save on material costs for the suits. The suits would fit more people in a 'one tail fits all' fashion, and beyond that, space suits are 'stillsuits', i believe the term is.
You gotta go, you gotta go.
And you don't that that all over floof.
On second thought, maybe it's an elaborate space turd bag D:
Having said that, this is totally cool looking, and i have to give you props on that latex suit hard shading that isn't just 'here's the shape'. It's full of badass rubber stretching and such. Looks wonderful. A++ G out of 5

Friend of mine linked me to a bunch of classic Sci-Fi art, http://auicei.tumblr.com/ .
But, rather nice work! Heh, poor Eurasia, getting crushed in the VixTitopocolyse.

I took a scan of an old book cover that was mostly a starfield, blacked out the stars and words and such (so that just the paper wear was showing), then set it to 'screen' which makes black values disappear. And I also overlaid a old plain yellowed paper to give it a faded look. Copy-paste a pic of a price tag et voila! Aging things is lots of fun :D
