I enjoy your work and story line. I am reminded of a friends father and a friend to me. He never quite came home. Sadly the only peace he found was in a bottle only time he could speak of the war.

War is hard on everyone involved. Vietnam was particularly hard because there was a lot more combat for the average soldier than any mordern war. Helicopters take you to where the action is. Then have the soldier come home to a hostile climate and the bad times roll.

I came along after vietnam was over but the war went on for many as did my friend. He told me the stories as he relived them usually splitting a 5th with me. Some of what he saw I could only imagen... some I didnt want to.

When I was a young child I visited the wall with my parents. It was hard to see my dad find the names of people he went to school with and served with but also the feel. I could not only feel the people who came there but the ones behind the names. I didnt feel worthy to be in their presence. Same with Arlington. I wonder if next time I visit DC if I will know some of the names there.


I may not always agree with a war... and certainly not the politicians dictating it but I have the utmost respect for the soldiers. What hit me was when an old vet handed me a red poppy outside of the supermarket (which I still wear in my cowboy hat) that it wasnt my uncle or my grandfather. It represents people my age now and younger. I have a cousin over there now.

Not ever day does a web comic actually evoke some emotion from me, but for this I do feel pain for the boar. I think what bothers me most, is that this was reality outside the comic as well, for many many Americans.

Muley, this page is so freaking wonderfully executed I just HAVE to fav it. I'm am so impressed with the faces and that lion is -gorgeous-. The composition also is very well executed. I think this is one of your best pages, one of quite a few. =3 You just get better and better.

Thank you for your very kind words. *snouts* I worried a lot about this page. It feels like cheating using that double note....but the only other way to communicate this was to spend three pages showing Shorty at home. I wasn't up for that.

Ahh, yeah. I can understand that. You could have had them as two separate letters, of which Muley either got at different times, or at the same time. I've heard about mail delays liek that during war. Regardless it was very well done. Thank you.

Just doesn't have an easy life, does he? And the greater extent is psychological, the mental load gets ever heavier.

The older you get, the more of these events you gather....
You loose some of the spring in your step as the weight of years of loses bare down.
You do get use to 'em.
With time, you get so you can move around pretty well.....
And at other times, something makes 'em shift and they all come crushing down.
So don't make big things out of little thing.
Life will send enough big things to keep you busy.

Most excellent work and content, boar. You've got a real story growing and developing here, lots of emotion. I'm impressed at the consistency of your artwork too.
