I remember my first experience with Gold, Silver, Crystal. Choose Chikorita as my starter, got to the first gym, had no clue it was a flying type until it was too late, raged, caught a Bellsprout and found I could trade it for an Onix. WIN!

but I kept Onix in my PC and never used him again

Yep...after that Gym...never used him again...ever. Useful for one Gym, box space in the PC after. Then we get Mareep or Growlithe.
