So, the MLP Season 3 2-part premeir was awesome.. just a few critiques:
SOMBRA NEEDED MORE SCREENTIME >:C
There wasn't much development on anything. It's like Cadence's only role was to use her magic, then at the end finally had a little more. It was mostly focused on Twilight passing her test, basically. I mean, I think it's annoying they would refer to the fate of an entire empire as a "test" than some important task or mission. I mean, yes, it was a test to see if Twilight was ready to move on, but that's in the eyes of Celestia and Luna. They could have just called upon Twilight with the quest/mission instead of calling it a test.
But really, I think the biggest issue was that King Sombra was a disappointment to most fans. I mean, he had 3 lines and was mostly just a black puff of smoke :C
This guy is epic, though. Love his voice! He is definitely the darkest MLP character so far!! I really hope he returns with a bigger and more threatening role!!

I think people need to realize that he was a symbolic villain rather than a developed character. I had to think about for a bit before I came to that conclusion 'cause I did have the same underwhelmed reaction about Sombra's... villainy.
My critique is that the stakes really weren't that high. Referring to the quest as a "test" made it seem as if Twilight failed, Celestia could step in and intervene. Buuuut at the same time, it gives some variety to the types of quests there are. Not all of the villains have to be over the royalty's heads in terms of strength. The main focus was Twilight; ultimately, I think it was really good character development to show her humility (and obviously self-sacrifice) when she wasn't even represented on the stained glass window.
Maybe my favorite plot-heavy episode, due to the sheer volume of Spike-age. o3o /biased

haha I do understand that point c: I just think it would have been neater if King Sombra had more stuff just cuz he sounded and looked cool XD Plus, I don't care much for the other villains. Sure, they're awesome, but they're not my favorites. King Sombra is definitely my favorite so I wish I could see more of him, to understand more about him, ya know? c:
