I considered that while I was writing. There are rather beneficial tricksters in fiction, but I've seen just how rare they are.
Would you believe that he started out based on a character I wanted to use in an original story? I plan to do it, too, but it's on hiatus. He's very much like the Devil. Crossroads, midnight, even the stump (Devil went down to Georgia) and his first words ("Please allow me to introduce myself", Sympathy for the Devil.) Though he's not quite demonic. More similar to No. 44, the mysterious stranger as created by Mark Twain. He's not evil, but he sees things that others don't see, and goes along with what he sees no matter what, meaning that he can appear very evil, but still make wonderful things happen.
