most of the Russian and Chinese ammo uses copper or brass plated steel, after it is exposed to the elements a little while it begins to rust .

I have a Remington 770 .243 bolt action that I bought a few months ago. Buying .243 ammunition is harder than I expected it to be.

don't feel alone.. even buying .22 LR is next to impossible too... as with most common calibers.

hopefully it will get better after people begin to max out on their personal stockpiles

Big-5 Sporting goods has the Mossbergs on sale every few months..
I bought one a few years back.. the tactical version.. short barrel, with the ammo tube all the way to the end of the barrel.

I was thinking of getting a cheap Hi-point hand gun while I save up for that 1911A1, probably in 22 or 40 cal.

I don't know what state you live in.. but I would suggest going to a few gun stores.. and seeing what is actually in stock and available.. before deciding on any make and model.
Many are just plain sold out.

If you plan to order one, you may be in for a long wait..
I just waited 3 months for a buttstock from Bushmaster.. even though they said it was "in stock" when I ordered it :P

I live in Texas. I bought my Remington from www.budsgunshop.com, the gun store I had it shipped to asked if I had thought about checking their stock before buying it. Of course I didn't. Most everything I want from that website is usually out of stock, especially 1911's
