Boring Sunday Night

Friend of mine from work let me borrow his flash gun, and i bought some food colouring a few years back.. put two and two together on a boringish Sunday night, random experimentation.
I think i need to improve on the lighting, and also fiddle with settings and general setup

i recently experimented a little with waterdrops. you should get yourself a IV line for around 2$ from a local drugstore. Makes life easier
heres some results from me:

I'll have a sit down with the users guide and supplementary guide a friend bought for me too :) clearly i have more to learn :)
Thanks for all your comments and also the pointers and links, its appreciated
I've already seen that shot ;) but I've missed the exif...
...checked right now!
Do you use to set the camera to B pose and then shot the flash manually?
Smoke photography is also very nice and has many opportunities in post processing with photoshop: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ld_ervQfKyM (Maybe you know DigitalRev TV already, if you don't I highly recommend it because they are hilarious^^)
This kind of experimentation is examtly why I want to get a DSLR myself in the first place. I took some test shots with a D3200 lately and I have never felt so creative before! I'm probably gonna settle for the D3100 though. I just don't need 24 megapixels and the D3100 seems to have better noise performance because of the lower pixelcount.
If i hadn't burnt out my LED lamp on a flexible arm that would have come in useful, oh well .. these are the tips that you pick up as you go along
Which model of flash gun you've used?
But with these more highly technical shots, i fail at them because of lack of experience hehe, but the flash gun i borrowed is a Canon Speedlite 430ex II which means not much to me, the basics of it are .. switch on .. press shutter and "oh bright light!" but i'll learn.
Thanks again
Anyway (this afternoon ^^) I've found a page reporting the light duration at different power ex.: @1/32 it reaches 1/4760 secs, I need to take some shots!!

I should be able to relearn alot of stuff pretty fast, but its not just the technique its also the equipment so next time i decide to try something new like this i'll think about what i'll need before rushing into it. However some of the results were pretty interesting, but your right about this flash gun .. it is rather slow and without the manual i was flying by instruments only!
Thanks for the tip and continued comments *wags*
I'll make sure to take a look at your shots ;3
