This is the final color I did for the B/W sketch I posted a couple months ago. Over the last couple years I've started studying various styles of art that I like and have tried to figure out what it is about that find so appealling about them by mimicking elements of those styles. The Dutch painters of the 16th and 17th century were the source of study here; in particular how they handled natural light in their work.
Here we see Hasim and Hani-ha relaxing before the evenings work starts. Due to their work, and for their own pride and enjoyment, it is important that they groom their fur at least once a day. Since it is very hard to reach certain parts of your body with a brush it is important to a partner or assistant to help with places like the back. Grooming is time for socializing, and with couples it can be a strong reinforcing of their bonds to each other. Of course there are all kinds of protocols and rituals depending on the culture and customs of various nations, tribes and religions.

Yeah Hasim and Hani-ha make a great team. If for nothing else because their personalities are rather different. Hasim is a somewhat rogish little fellow who is always looking for an angle to make a buck. Hani-ha is much more down to earth guy who who is letting the winds of life blow him along on his journey through this world. Maybe that is why Lady Naballa of Violet Pillow made Hasim Hani-ha pupil when he starting working there. She probably thought he'd be a good influence for Hasim. Even though Hasim has rubbed off on Hani-ha to some degree.
