Magic… sorcery… creating fire. For young Larom, this is the first real challenge. The druid is still at the beginning to become a very powerful caster. And this picture was made to capture this important moment. ^^

This is not quite my “cartoon/anime style” as you know it… it’s a few steps beyond. In fact, this is still a simple style, but enhanced with some smoother shading and one or two filters. This would be my digital style, if I was asked to do a cover art for something.
Used myself as model here. ^^

In fact, this lighting effect is quite simple... it is just a usual shading layer, which I have turned into strong black.
Mostly I use greyish shadings. In this case, the surrounding is so dark that it is appropiate to use hard black.
Some advise:
Try to use less saturation in your colouring. Also, a colourful layer on the top, which turns the entire artwork into something less bright, can be helpful.

Careful! If the wavelength of electromagnetic radiation emitted from the flame is compressed to the planck level then it may form an event horizon, self trapping itself and becoming a kugelblitz!
